EC Murphy Walsh Strategies
Strategic Thinking
Strategic Thinking has become so clichéd that we now understate its value. The reality remains that good strategy and implementation yield good outcomes. Organizations without a strategy are committed to the default-strategy of luck.
EC Murphy Walsh supports executive teams and Boards in the Strategic Thinking process. Good strategy includes vision, mission, values, goals, objectives, tasks, accountability, and timetable. Good strategies are improved and approved by the Boards deliberative process. The best Boards do not rubberstamp but rather ask probing questions. EC Murphy Walsh facilitates the process so that each participant group exercises the correct role, relationship and responsibility to optimize the outcome.
Strategy may be created in a bottom-up process but is appropriately approved at the top. Effective Boards do not guarantee outstanding organizations but organizations are rarely outstanding with mediocre Boards. EC Murphy Walsh advises Boards on effective governance to achieve organizational potential.
Executive Talent Strategies™
Executive Talent Strategies encompass Talent Assessment, Talent Development, Talent Progression Planning™ and Executive Coaching. It is a systematic approach developed by EC Murphy Walsh in response to the succession planning and talent needs of client organizations.
Succession planning has eroded into a process which is suspect and received negatively by employee groups. We have all experienced subjectivity, favoritism, and the feeling that our participation in process is purely ceremonial. The die is cast and our opinion is superficial.
Talent Progression Planning™ involves real and meaningful participation where many people are involved in assessing the organization’s talent and relating that data to the future organizational needs. Individuals are considered personally so that they see their own strengths and weaknesses and are encouraged to pursue personal improvement. The result raises the corporate bar and assists the organization in moving from good to great.
EC Murphy Walsh conducts a Talent Mapping Assessment™ which includes the new Talent Achievement Inventory™ for individuals and the Cultural Achievement Inventory™ for the organization. From this data plus our accumulated international database, EC Murphy Walsh is able to provide the client with a Talent Economic Value Analysis™ (TEVA). The TEVA is used to provide the client with the Talent Progression Plan™ which is much more that the Board mandated succession plan. It is the talent roadmap.
From the Talent Progression Plan™, we are able to look at talent from several different perspectives at the same time. Each perspective examines the CEO’s basic questions which include:
• Given the mission and challenges, what are the organizations talent needs now and in the future? By title, role, function, department, what is the Talent Progression Plan?
• How can our existing talent be more effectively utilized to fulfill present and future needs?
• How can the development of Talent Progression Plans contribute to more effective alignment the talent potential of our valued people?
• How can departments and cross-functional teams use the Talent Progression Plan to more effectively align and improve the achievement of mission objectives?
• How can we use the Talent Progression Plan to retain our top talent and to help every individual to develop?
The final step in the Executive Talent Strategies is to provide the Executive Coaching which supports executives in their success. Dr. Murphy, Grant Walsh and carefully selected executive coaches provide an objective sounding board for senior executives to test ideas and concepts before presenting to a broader audience. EC Murphy Walsh serves as library of information and consultation to reduce the risks inherent in strategic decision-making.
Leadership Intervention
Leadership Intervention may be interim or long term executive leadership. Or, Leadership Intervention may be as a result of a the need for crisis intervention related to strategy, finance, or quality. EC Murphy Walsh supports clients by placing experienced leadership on-site permanently or temporarily.
Turnaround and Change
From time to time, organizations may require outside intervention to diagnose and bring about the change needed for continuous improvement or crisis intervention. The executives of EC Murphy Walsh have many years experience in turnaround and change. We have developed a Self-Improving System™ which uses a set of surveys to assess the experiences of each staff member, board member, and volunteer to reveal the areas needing improvement or change. The organization itself, through the guidance of EC Murphy Walsh, can then use the culled data to ameliorate the problems which have existed.
