Scott Rowand has joined EC Murphy Walsh as a Principal in addition to serving as the Managing Partner and CEO of R. Scott Rowand & Associates, Toronto, Ontario.
Scott Rowand holds a baccalaureate degree in Psychology and Masters of Health Services Administration from the University of Alberta.
He spent 25 years in senior leadership positions in teaching hospitals in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. He served as President and CEO of The Wellesley Hospital, Toronto, Ontario and the 1,100 bed, Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation, Hamilton, Ontario.
Scott became a Partner in a national health-care executive recruitment firm in 2001 before establishing his own firm, R. Scott Rowand & Associates, in 2004. He provides executive search and management consulting services to health care and health and life sciences organizations, educational institutions, and related organizations internationally.
Scott is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, Psychiatry, and Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto and in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McMaster University.
Scott Rowand has served as President of the Association of Canadian Teaching Hospitals, Chair of the Ontario Council of Teaching Hospitals, a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Canadian Medical Colleges, and a member of the Accreditation Committee of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He has served on the Boards of the Hospital Management Research Unit, the Centre for Health Economics and Policy Analysis, the Centre for the Study of Children at Risk and is currently a member of the Boards of Directors of the Ontario Health Research Alliance and the Chedoke Health Corporation. He served as a Director of IBM Canada for six years.
Scott has 15 peer-reviewed papers, three book chapters and two proceedings to his credit.
Scott Rowand concentrates his consulting services on executive talent leadership for hospitals and health authorities, health research institutes, faculties and schools of health sciences, and health care professional and charitable organizations, as well as private sector interests related to health care and pharmaceuticals. He has conducted executive searches for teaching and community hospitals, health associations, universities, and other health care providers. He has consulted with hospitals and associations on the optimization of professional organization structures, human resources issues, strategy, governance, and with assisting hospitals to develop their academic roles in research and education. He has also serves as a consultant/expert witness to several law firms providing opinions on hospital management and liability questions.
